Mateusz Chworak
Graduated in 2020 with a degree in Information Systems Engineering from the University of Warmia-Mazury in Olsztyn. Since 2020 a rail signaller, and since 2023 a dispatcher in Polish Railways. Passionate about technology, including railway traffic control devices, electronics and programming. Co-author of the „Semafor” application.
The first version of the SEMAFOR app was made available on 21 August 2015 for Android mobile devices and over the years it has changed its appearance and been successively extended. Currently, the app allows quick access to descriptions of signals and indicators used on the PKP PLK railways, both from the computer’s web browser and in
a refreshed version on Android phones. The grouped elements allow you to find interesting content, and the animated signals allow you not only to browse the list of signals, but also to set your own semaphore cell combinations.
In addition, most of the hand signals have been animated to further illustrate how to interpret the rigid images
from the pages of the manual. Our aim is to present railway issues in the most accessible way possible and we are trying to successively develop the application with further interesting solutions to make learning railway regulations easier. Due to the ever-increasing interest in Polish railways among foreigners, we are going out of our way to meet this goal and have added English language support to our application.
Have fun!
The descriptions in the app are based on the Ie-1(E-1) Signalling Instruction in force from 24.11.2024.
As part of the successive development and expansion of version 4.0.0 from 2022, the application has gained more and more tabs and bookmarks over the years, and currently SEMAFOR supports the following:
• variable cell and appearance layouts for:
– semaphores,
– ABS (Automatic Block Signals),
– repeater signals,
– light warning signals,
– light shunting dials,
– shaped semaphores,
• alternate signal signaling,
• crossing warning shield,
• light and shaped shunting disc,
• shaped warning discs stationary, two-valve and three-valve,
• shaped shunting disc,
• shaped barrier shield,
• all general operating indicators, ETCS, overhead line,
• other indicators,
• signals given by vehicles and persons,
• cooperation of signals,
It should also be mentioned that we are not slowing down and in addition to the successive development of the current Semafor application, in parallel we are working on more railroad projects, more info soon.
Huge thanks are also due to Mr Szymon Prusak and Mr Mateusz Kozłowski, who lent us their knowledge and skills in programming, graphics and supported the project with their time in order to
testing the application.
Thanks!
A huge thank you also to you, the app users, who constantly give us tips on what to change, what to improve, what to add. We listen to your advice and slowly, in our spare time, try to put it into practice!
